Night Trees

This photo was taken by Abhi S. somewhere near our Glisan Cafe. The trees are a huge part of what makes Portland so beautiful, but our personal touch of old Portland history brings them to life even at night. Great photo Abhi, thank you.

Oregon Red Grape Leaf

Here is a good photo from Shelly S. of a red grape leaf in her back yard. In recent years Oregon has gained great notoriety for our Pinot Noir’s and this picture reminds me of why. Son, rain, fertile soil and passionate people...how can you go wrong?

Mt. Tabor in Fall

We are starting this week off strong. This photo of my neck of the woods was sent in by Nancy A. capturing the beauty of Fall on our own inner city active volcano. Mt. Tabor is nice all year round, but Portland does know how to make the best of the Autumn season. Thank you Nancy!

Week 4 Winner

Yet another great week of Portland Photo’s. Thank you everyone! Week 4’s winner is Kathy M. with her photo of a community garden scarecrow that I swear is watching me as I type this… did her head just spin completely around or am I seeing things? Keep those photos coming in!

Reflections on The Wilamette

Yet another great photo from Adam T. taken a little over a week ago of the Willamette River. Few things are as tranquil as the still waters that reflect our beautiful city and its people. Well done AGAIN Adam, thank you!

A Cabin full of Leprechaun Gold

Okay, so this isn't really of Portland, but it is the Columbia River. This well timed photo was taken by Robert H. from the Maritime Museum in Astoria. Neat photo Robert, thank you!

What in the world...

This is a fantastic photo of... actually, I can only assume it's one of the many amazing things out turbulent sky's can do on any given evening. This great photo comes from Ms. A. and I hope she can shed some light in the comment section as to what we are admiring in this picture. Thank you Ms. A.

Sunset reflecting off our buildings

They say sunset and sunrise are the best lighting for photographs. This picture from Satara R. shows what beauty can come from the right lighting at the right time in the right city. Thank you Satara.

Sauvie Island Weeds

This photo was taken by James M. out on Sauvie Island. If there is one thing that flourishes in our Portland weather, it would be our weeds. Great angle on this shot James, thank you!

A Bridge to...

Here is a great photo from Stanley P. of the Freemont Bridge. I love how it shows the Portland fog as well as why our Portland landscape is "ever-changing".

Putting the Scary in Scarecrow...

I am back from vacation and will post all of last week’s submissions in order of our receiving them. The winner will be announced this afternoon. First, here is a great photo from Kathy M. of a scarecrow in one of the community gardens. It would keep me away...

Keep them Coming... despite the lack of new posts.

Please keep sending in the photos! This week (week 4) I will be on vacation and won’t be updating this web-page but the contest will continue. Please continue to send in your photo’s and I will post all pictures received upon my return on August 30th. The week 4 winner will be selected on Friday (as usual) but announced on Monday. After September 1st, we will be printing and showing a few of our favorites in our café. Keep your eyes peeled and thank you for taking an interest in our contest!

Week 3 Winner

Another great week of photographs, thank you everyone. This week’s winner is Alan W. who took this photo of a man on his front porch on the Mississippi Ave commercial neighborhood. Nice photo Alan and Congratulations!

Eastbank Esplanade

The last entry in week 3 comes from Adam T. This photo was taken from the Eastbank Esplanade looking down through the grates. Cool photo, thank you Adam!

The Smoking Dog Needing Cash for Coffee

Another great photo from Des H… I LOVE this one! They say we are the most dog friendly city in the US. Apparently we even like to take care of the ruffians. Add a few tattoos and he could get a barista job. Thank you Des!

Larch Mountain Trail

One of the best parts of Portland are the numerous day hikes a that are less than a 30 minute drive from our homes. Here is a good photo taken by Andrea D of one of my favorites, Larch Mountain. Here she has captured the water, the greenery and the shadows scream the Great Northwest.

Water and Agriculture

In Oregon we are known for our agriculture. In Portland, we are famous for our water…heck, it’s implied in the name. Here is a great photo from Andrea D. capturing both out on Sauvie Island. Thank you for sharing Andrea!

Man and his Dog

Here is a great photo from Nancy P. of a “Man and his Dog” at the beach. One of my favorite things about the beach is how riled up dogs get as soon as they are unleashed and free to gallivant around the giant sandbox. It’s even more amusing when a dog actually sees a small sandbox and can’t quite figure out how to best enjoy it. The excitement is still there, but they can only work their two front feet. Unfortunately, it’s not the Portland area and thus isn’t eligible to win in the contest, but still a great photo. Thank you Nancy!

December Fog Breaking

We received this photo from Robert G. of a December morning fog break. I especially like the way the sunlight breaks through remaining clouds. I often forget how beautiful and tranquil a cold winter morning can be in this city. Nice pic Robert!

Swimming Holes and Body Art

This is another familiar Portland summertime scene from James L. In a city name for our access to water, there are no shortages of local swimming holes which we use to escape the rare heat. It is also a chance for our tattooed locals to show off their body art in what has become something else Portlandians have come to be known for. Thank you James!

Reading on the Porch of Portland Enterprise

In a neighborhood full of businesses, Alan W. managed to catch this photo of a man reading on the front porch of one of the last remaining homes along Mississippi Ave. Great photo Alan, thank you!

Farmers Market

This is a familiar summer time image from Kathy M. of a Farmers Market in Beaverton. We have come to love our farmers markets and the colors of summer. It’s such a welcome change from our million shades of grey we have the other 9 months out of the year. Thank you Kathy!

Not Portland, but very Oregon

I received this great photo of the Astoria Bridge from Vesta O. Regrettably, this particular contest is for Portland area Photo’s only. Future contests will likely include all of Oregon so please keep photos like these handy. I still felt like sharing it, so here you go. Thank you Vesta!

Old Portland Sign

We received some good photo’s over the weekend. Here is one from Alodie L. of an old drive-in sign that she sees when taking the scenic route home.

Week 2 Winner

Thank you again to all those who submitted some fantastic photo’s. This week’s winner is Sabrina who took this photo from the Willamette River of our St. John’s Bridge. Nice photo Sabrina and Congratulations!

Rounding out the "bridge week" theme...

This last minute entry came in last night from Alex V. He pulled from his photo collection a fantastic picture of the St. John’s Bridge to round off our un-official “bridge week”. Thanks to all that submitted this week, you make this a lot of fun for all of us at World Cup Coffee.

Toy Pony

Here is a great entry from Claudia H. I have always loved these little toy ponies that are tied up to the old horse hoops left from the days of horses wondering the streets. I am always impresses with the fact that you seldom see one vandalized in any way. They are a subtle reminder of the affection we Portlandians all share for our unique style and history this city has. Claudia went on to say “I am still a little bit nervous about submitting this picture because I know there are great pictures in the contest. But at the same time this is fun!” Well said Claudia, and thank you!

NW 23rd Telephone Pole

I am a pretty “neat and orderly” kind of guy, but for some reason, I have never taken issue with these telephone pole advertisements. It’s true that they stack up and can’t likely be visible for more than a day and yet, they pile up to the point that these poles are essentially padded. It amuses me, especially when you watch them get cleaned up (they burn them off). I would be curious to see how many staples are in those poles by the end of their use. Nice picture Adam T.!

Underbelly of the St. John's Bridge

Robert G. has submitted this photo in "sticking with this weeks Bridge theme" of the underbelly of the St. Johns Bridge. This adds yet another beautiful angle of one of our finest bridges. For the record, there is no "theme week", so please feel free to submit any photo of Portland. I do like the photo though, so thank you Robert!

From the water...

This great photo was taken from the Willamette River by Sabrina H. of the St. Johns Bridge. Sabrina is a fantastic example of the artistic eye knowing no age. She was concerned that at the age of 14 she would not be eligible for this competition. We welcome artists of all ages as you are an important part of our community, so thank you for your submission.

We do love our bridges...

Our city is built at the conversion point of two large rivers. To make it all work, we have built some amazing bridges. One of our oldest is that of the Steel Bridge which is used for both pedestrian and commercial traffic. This photo was taken by Des H. of the rarely seen, but frequently used Railroad level to this bridge. Great photo Des, thank you!

We have our first weekly winner! Congratulations Will M. We had some great submissions this week, thank you! It was a remarkably difficult decision. If your photo doesn’t win, we encourage you to re-submit it in the following weeks. Our winners will be notified directly, but just so everyone knows. The "New" Sauvie Island Bridge

This is SO absolutely Portland. You have famous smooth topped St. Helens in the back ground, the rusty (but new) Sauvie Island Bridge… and my favorite part… the Subaru station wagon complete with his and her bikes mounted to the top. Very cool!

The Benson Bubblers

Adam T. sent us this black and white of one of Portland’s most prized possessions, our Benson Bubblers. We didn’t really know how much we loved these thirst quenchers until they tried to take them away. Nice photo Adam!

A secret place for secret people...

Another good undercover photo from Alex L. She didn't specify the location this photo was taken. If you know and are willing to share, please feel free to tell us in the comments section below this photo.
